Two (2) seats on the Board of Education are open. The seats will be filled by the two candidates with the highest number of votes as follows:

路 Two three-year terms commencing July 1, 2026, and expiring on June 30, 2029.

Anyone interested in becoming a candidate for the position of Trustee of the Board of Education should contact the District Clerk, Joanne Stevens, at jstevens@carmelschools.org or 845-878-2094, ext. 201, for the necessary documents and nominating petitions. Nominating petitions must be returned to the District Clerk by 5:00 p.m. on (information to come). This year, petitioners must collect a minimum of (information to come). It is recommended that petitioners collect additional signatures beyond the required number, in case one or more signatures are found to be invalid. 

Any eligible voter may sign Nominating Petitions for those seeking the position of Trustee of the Board of Education in the Carmel Central School District and may sign petitions for more than one candidate.

Eligible voters must be:

• a citizen of the United States
• at least 18 years of age
• a school district resident for at least 30 days prior to the Annual Election

Application for an absentee or early mail ballot can be downloaded below, or by contacting the district clerk, Joanne Stevens, at 845-878-2094, ext. 201, or jstevens@carmelschools.org. No absentee or early mail ballots can be provided without completion of this New York State Board of Elections application. After confirmation of the applicant鈥檚 registration status, a ballot will be issued. Applications for Absentee and Early Mail Ballots cannot be submitted more than 30 days before the election (information to come). The application must be received by the District Clerk by (information to come) (mail) or (information to come) (in-person). 

To be eligible for an Absentee Ballot, voters must fall into one of the following categories:

路 Absence from county on Election Day

路 Temporary illness or physical disability

路 Permanent illness or physical disability

路 Duties related to primary care of one or more individuals who are ill or physically disabled

路 Resident or patient of Veterans Health Administration Hospital

路 Detention in jail/prison, awaiting trial, awaiting action by a grand jury, or in prison for conviction of a crime or offense which was not a felony.

Completed absentee ballots must be received at the CCSD Administrative Office by 5 p.m. on (information to come). Absentee ballots can be mailed to 81 South Street, P.O. Box 296, Patterson, NY 12563.

Early-Mail Ballots:

Voters who do not meet the absentee voter鈥檚 qualifications can request an Early-Mail ballot. The process and timelines are identical to absentee ballots as follows:

All completed early-mail ballots must be received by the district clerk at the CCSD Administrative Office by 5:00 p.m. on (information to come).

If you are a resident of Carmel Central School District and are registered for general elections in the county where you reside (Putnam or Dutchess), you are eligible to vote in the Annual Budget Vote and Board Elections.

Not yet registered? To be eligible to register, you must be at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen, and a resident of the Carmel Central School District for 30 days. You may register with the County Board of Elections by mail or remotely through the website until (information to come).   Walk-in registrations for school elections only can be taken by the district clerk until May 14, 2025.
